Bearing rescue after the floods
In September of this year, severe floods affected several areas of the Czech Republic. Water knows no boundaries and reaches everywhere. Among the affected were our customers, who reached out to us for help with inspecting bearings from flooded areas.
How does such an inspection work? Is it possible to save the bearings? And how quickly does corrosion caused by water progress?
First glance at the bearings after the flood
The customer delivered bearings from the affected warehouses, which clearly showed signs of damage. Upon unpacking the shipment, it was evident that water had not only penetrated through damaged packaging but also into the internal layers.
Bearings under close inspection
Under the protective cover, we discovered that the anti-corrosion agent, which typically protects the surface of the bearings, had reacted with the water and formed an emulsion. This emulsion had lost its protective properties, and the threat of corrosion was immediate. Immediate action was needed to prevent permanent damage.
Cleaning and corrosion removal process
Upon thorough analysis, we found that fortunately, corrosion had only affected the surface layer. Through expert cleaning, disassembly, and meticulous care, we managed to remove all dirt and corrosion from the bearings. This process was challenging but crucial for restoring their functionality.
Final result
After complete restoration, the bearings were as good as new. We successfully saved all 12 bearings, valued at approximately CZK 200,000. The customer was able to fully utilize the bearings again.
This story is proof that even seemingly lost situations can be resolved.
